Authors note: this is an s,a about tow characters from two different books aren’t all that different
I could choose anything for this essay. I could have chosen slavery or even under appreciation, but I have chosen freedom. I’ve chosen freedom, because it is what two kids, from two different books want, Daniel and Luke. Daniel and Luke are just kids who want to make their own decisions and be normal.
Luke is a third child. In this book, the government limits the number of children in a family. The government does this because of the concern that there will not be enough food for everyone. So, Luke’s family keeps him hidden in the attic.
Daniel is just a boy; he is an African American slave. The reason Daniel is not free is because he was born into slavery. Back in that time, African American people were treated differently because they were owned by someone else and viewed as property.
In the end, Daniel was guaranteed freedom because he brought his dad’s soldier notes to black Frances in New York. The reason that he would become free with the solder notes is because he can trade them for money. Black Frances know General George Washington. In other words, Daniel had some hook-ups.
Luke got his freedom by looking across the street at one of his neighbor’s house and saw someone else peeking out the window. Later, by sneaking out of the house, Luke found out that the neighbors had a third child too, named Jen. Jen already had a plan to become free. She was going to go to the Shadow children, a group of third children who escaped and formed a secret group. Jen wanted Daniel to join too, but he chickened out. Jen ended up joining the Shadow children and getting shot. Once Jen’s dad found out about Luke, he gave Luke a fake ID to his being as a third child.
In the beginning, all they wanted was to be free and in the end, both Luke and Daniel got their wish. Daniel would have gotten his wish of getting his mom free too and Luke got his by being a normal boy.
